November 24, 2021 — The Hamilton County Democratic Party is seeking candidates to replace the Clerk of Courts vacancy following Aftab Pureval’s election as Mayor of the City of Cincinnati.

By law, the selection for replacement of the Clerk of Courts is the authority of the county central committee of the political party that nominated the last occupant of the office as a candidate of the office. The committee’s appointment must be made between five and 45 days after the vacancy occurs. The unexpired term will also be on the November 2022 ballot.

Candidates interested in seeking the appointment to the Clerk of Courts position should submit their resume to Chair Gwen McFarlin at Gwen@hamiltoncountydems.org by December 6, 2021

“We are looking for community leaders who can successfully manage this critically important county-wide office and continue to advance justice reform in Hamilton County. We look forward to a fair, open and transparent screening process as we select the strongest democratic candidate to fill the vacancy as Clerk of Courts”.

Gwen McFarlin, Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, has charged a nine-person screening committee with interviewing and making a recommendation for nomination and appointment by the end of 2021.

Mayor-elect Pureval is to be sworn in as Mayor of the City of Cincinnati on January 4, 2022.
